TypewriterGirls Bankrupt BP!

July 4th, 2010

On Friday July 17th at the Brillobox, the TypewriterGirls are taking action against the perpetrators of the Gulf Oil Spill in the best way that they know how– with poetry, comedy, writing games, art, and chaos. Join them and a panel of experts at TypewriterGirls Bankrupt BP: Doors will open at 8 PM, with the performance starting around 9 PM; $7 or $5 cover for guests that bring a personalized letter to a BP rep or elected official on the topic of the oil spill.

The theatrics for the evening will give the audience a glimpse into a dreary future where only a secret society of “Poet-Errorists” and stuffed animals are still fighting against the corporations who have devastated the environment in search of profit. Helping them out will be the dance troupe, The Pillow Project; comedy rockers, Amoeba Knievel; poets Becca Mertz, Chris Miller, and Kevin Finn; and speakers from a wide range of academic disciplines on the topic of the oil spill and viable energy alternatives.

The audience will be asked to visit a call-in/letter writing station to take action toward proper clean-up of the oil spill and to prevent further eco-crises. And, as always, the cabaret will also feature a BP-themed, typewriter-written Exquisite Corpse, surrealist drinking games, improv comedy, and a dance-party to close out the night.
